Windows 11 allows you to play the Surf game while it installs updates

Windows 11 now allows the user to play the Edge Surf game during the installation of OS, restoring it from a backup, or deploying updates. The game offer appears after updating the OS for 30 minutes.

The offer to play the game was noticed by Tom Warren while he was installing updates on his Surface Laptop Studio 2 devices. The installer gave him the option to launch the game Surf.

It is unclear if this game offer is exclusive to new Surface devices or if it is available to all Windows 11 users. Microsoft has not commented on Warren's request for more information.

The change may demonstrate Microsoft's efforts to make the OS more friendly to users during software deployment.

In February 2020, Microsoft added Surf as an Easter egg to the Edge browser, requiring users to enter "edge://surf/" in the address bar to access it.
