Windows 10 finally supports dark mode for Windows Search

Windows 11 is now available to eligible devices, but Microsoft is not giving up on Windows 10 yet. While it is true that the most exciting new features may be Windows 11-exclusive, the Software giant will continue supporting Windows 10 with bug fixes and noticeable improvements at least until October 2025. One of such improvements is an updated Windows Search, which now has a dark theme.

It appears that Microsoft has made a server-side change to enable the dark mode support for Windows Search without installing cumulative updates. Users no longer have to deal with bright white backgrounds when using Windows Search in the dark. The only annoyance left is the scrollbar without a proper dark variant.Windows 10 Dark Search

You can access Windows Search on Windows 10 by pressing the Win + S buttons, clicking the search icon on the taskbar, or typing your terms in the Start menu. (The same works in Windows 11).

There is no official information from Microsoft regarding the updated visuals in Windows Search. Users report getting dark theme support for the built-in search on Windows 10 2004, 20H2, and 21H1. It is worth reminding that Windows 10 2004 is now on its way out, as Microsoft plans to stop supporting it in December 2021. The company recommends all users update their systems to a more recent Windows 10 version or pull the trigger and jump straight to Windows 11.

There are a few other things Microsoft decided to backport from Windows 11 to 10. The new Microsoft Store is now available for Windows Insiders running Windows 10. Also, Microsoft is bringing DirectStorage APIs to Windows 10, providing users with a special set of instructions to improve loading time in supported games.

  1. Really??? Windows search has always been dark for me, maybe because I use the dark theme in any case.
