The first preview of Visual Studio 2022 is available for download

Visual Studio 2019 Purple Icon2

Microsoft today announced the first preview of Visual Studio 2022. As the software is now 64-bit, the company's intent is to test the functionality and ability of Visual Studio to use all system resources, which is especially important when working with complex projects.

It is noted that some features from Visual Studio 2019 are missing in Visual Studio 2022 Preview 1, as engineers still need to do some work to finish the transition to a 64-bit platform. You can read more about this in the release notes .

The whole set of new features and performance improvements will be released in Visual Studio 2022 Preview 2. For upcoming changes, check out this roadmap . Until then, you can test the updated IntelliCode tool included with today's preview of the IDE.

Preview versions of Visual Studio 2022 can be installed side-by-side with previous versions of Visual Studio. All three editions (Community, Pro and Enterprise) are free to use.
