Surface Laptop 5 specs leak reveals Ryzen 6000 CPUs and more

According to a post on the Windows Prime website (no records of accurate leaks so far), Microsoft is working on a fifth-gen Surface Laptop with the latest mobile CPUs from AMD.

The source claims Surface Laptop "5" will come in two traditional flavors: 13 inches and 15 inches. Also, users will have to pick between configs with AMD Ryzen 6000 CPUs (hexa-core Ryzen 5 6680U and octa-core Ryzen 7 6980U) or Intel 12th gen processors paired with 8, 16, or 32GB of LPDDR4X RAM.

Microsoft opting for the latest AMD processors is a big deal for the Surface Laptop lineup. Historically, those devices used generation-old AMD CPUs, lagging behind other mainstream laptops and lacking the latest improvements and features.

The newest chips are not the only great thing coming to Surface Laptop "5." The next generation of Surface Laptop will reportedly offer a 120 Hz display with a dynamic refresh rate and Dolby Vision support (similar to Surface Pro 8). Also, Microsoft is finally ready to equip its laptops with Thunderbolt 4 and USB 4 ports without ditching legacy USB-A and Surface Connect.

According to Windows Prime, Surface Laptop "5" will get a battery with up to 21 hours (13-inch variant) and 19.5 hours (15-inch variant) of typical usage. Intel-based versions reportedly offer inferior battery life with up to 19 and 17.5 hours on a single charge. As usual, those battery life estimates are optimistic at best, and they will vary depending on specific usage patterns.

Naturally, Microsoft did not comment on the leak, which means you need to take it with a grain of salt. The company is expected to unveil Surface Laptop "5" later this year. As of now, there are no specific dates.
