Some Google Drive users may have lost their files from May to November 2023

In recent months, Google Drive users have reported that files uploaded to the cloud service have been disappearing. In a post on the support portal Google officially confirmed that files from May to November 2023 may have vanished from the storage.

The initial report reveals some details on the incident. Google Drive files suddenly disappeared, reverting back to its state in May 2023. Google Drive activities do not show any changes (only activities from May are displayed). No files were deleted manually, and none are found in the Recycle Bin. The user did not share files with anyone and used the drive locally. Despite following the recovery procedure recommended by support, they were unable to retrieve the files.

An additional 26 people have reported experiencing the same issue. Google stated that their engineers are working on determining the causes and finding solutions.

They also mentioned that the timeline for resolving the issue is unknown and advised users not to make any changes to the root/data folder until further instructions are provided by the developers.
