Registry Editor gets an address bar in Windows 10

In the recently released Windows 10 build 14942, the Registry Editor app got a small, but very useful update. Now it comes with an address bar, which displays the current Registry path, and allows you to copy and paste the key path.

The updated Registry app looks as follows:

This change will definitely be welcomed by users who work with Registry Editor. It will save your time allowing you to navigate quickly to the desired Registry path which you have in the clipboard.

Unfortunately, this change is not available for Windows 8.1 or Windows 7. If you are using a previous operating system, take a look at the RegOwnershipEx app. It is a powerful tool to manage Registry permissions which I coded for my personal needs.

Besides taking ownership of Registry keys and granting admin permissions, it allows opening the Registry Editor at the desired key with one click. It is able to handle clipboard content automatically.

If you launch it as "RegOwnershipEx.exe /j", it will extract the Registry key path from the clipboard and open it immediately in the Registry editor. See the following video:

It also supports abbreviated names for the root keys like HKCU or HKLM instead of HKEY_CURRENT_USER OR HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE respectively. RegOwnershipEx will also always open a new Regedit window preserving your current window.

The address bar of the updated Registry Editor app in Windows 10 doesn't support all these advanced features of RegOwnershipEx but nevertheless it is a good improvement Microsoft made to Registry Editor.
