Microsoft has started showing native ads for free Outlook users, i.e. for those who do not have a subscription. The ads appear in email folders and look like a regular message with a tiny "ad" badge at the top right corner. The only folder that doesn't show ads is the "Focused inbox".
Microsoft was gradually rolling out the change, so now it has reached a wider audience. If you are not a Microsoft 365 subscriber, you will see ads at the top of your Other tab or the top of your regular inbox.
The ad looks like a regular email, and you can even swipe it to delete. But it will return after some time.
As Microsoft stated to TheVerge, “For free users of Outlook, ads are shown in their inbox and they can choose to enable the ‘Focused inbox’ feature if they would like to see ads only in the ‘Other’ inbox,”.
So the only way to completely get rid of ads in Outlook mobile is to pay for a Microsoft 365 subscription.
The change caused a flood of negative feedback. Frustrated users started complaining on both the Apple Store and Google Play and leaving one-star reviews.

I run everything through a pi-hole. Works on your own network. Otherwise, you have to put a pi-hole on the cloud and connect to. However, I have my own domain for mail nowadays.
Soon there will be advertising on everything online even if you pay, they track everything you do :/
