It is now possible to make Microsoft Edge open History in a new tab with Ctrl + H. Earlier this keyboard shortcut was always opening the History flyout aka "Hub".
In the recent updates, the browser from Microsoft received several new compact flyouts or “hubs.” These hubs allow you to quickly check history, downloads, and favorites without leaving the currently open page. This behavior is not suitable for all users.

Some prefer dedicated history or download pages in individual tabs (or at least an option to switch to.) Until now, there was no way to make Edge open the navigation history in a new tab using the browser’s menu or the Ctrl + H shortcut. In the latest Canary build of Edge, Microsoft finally added the missing option.
To enable this feature, make sure you have Microsoft Edge 91.0.837.0 or newer. At the time of writing, this update is only available in the Canary channel. You can download it from the official website. However, keep in mind that Canary builds are not designed to be your daily driver, and may have bugs and various issues.
Open History in New Tab with Ctrl + H in Microsoft Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Type
edge://flags/#edge-history-accelerator-override
into the address bar. - Select Enabled from the drop-down menu next to the Enable history accelerator to open the full page option.
- Restart the browser to apply the change.
Now, when you press Ctrl + H, Microsoft Edge will be opening a new history tab with all your browsing activity. This feature works on on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
Do note that pressing the history button on the toolbar or in the menu still opens a hub. A new flag applies only to the Ctrl + H shortcut. Also, there are no similar flags for downloads or favorites hubs as of now. Pressing respective shortcuts (Ctrl + J for downloads and Ctrl + Shift + O for favorites) still open compact flyouts.
