Microsoft’s Xbox Android and iOS apps are getting touch controls for remote play

According to a new report, Microsoft has exciting plans to enhance the remote play feature in the Xbox app for iOS and Android by adding touch controls. To make this possible, Microsoft has already started testing this feature in the beta versions of its mobile apps.

With the implementation of touch controls on the device's screen, users will gain the ability to play Xbox games remotely without the hassle of needing a Bluetooth-connected gamepad. This new experience will resemble the existing touch control support offered by the Xbox Gaming Cloud service. When initiating a remote game, users will find touch buttons on the screen, strategically positioned to resemble the layout of a traditional controller.

Most players still prefer using a gamepad over touchscreen controls on smartphones or tablets. But Microsoft has revealed an interesting statistic on the topic. They have shared that around 20% of Xbox Cloud Gaming users exclusively rely on touch controls, suggesting a growing demand for this feature.

Microsoft has already incorporated touch control support into hundreds of Xbox games. Notably, popular titles like Hades, Minecraft Dungeons, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon have experienced significant success with touch controls.

It is worth mentioning that Microsoft has already taken steps to implement a similar touch control feature for Xbox games on their dual-screen Surface Duo smartphone since its launch.
