Microsoft will reportedly begin testing a unified Outlook One app this Spring

You may remember Project Monarch, a unified Outlook client for all supported platforms. The app is part of the One Outlook concept. It was expected to enter public testing in 2021, but this never happened.

According to Microsoft sources close to ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley, the Project Monarch is still a thing, and we have a chance to see in coming months. Microsoft is about to start testing this Spring. Perhaps that members of the Windows Insider program running Windows builds from the Dev and Beta channels will get their hands on the app in March or April 2022. The rest of the Insiders will receive the unified Outlook app at the end of Summer. However, all these dates are still subject to change.

As for the stable release, it should take place at the end of the year. After that, Project Monarch is expected to be included in the feature updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Microsoft originally planned to replace the Mail and Calendar built-in Windows 10 apps with the newer one. But now the company's plan looks different. The new Outlook client will be installed alongside the current Mail and Calendar app, so users will be able to choose what works best for them. At least for some period of time.
