The most important point in the changelog for Edge 92 on Android is the unified codebase, which Edge insiders have been testing for several months. From now on, Edge for Android runs the same Chromium build as desktop versions of the browser. Previously, Microsoft Edge on Android was stuck at ancient Chromium 77, lacking new features and performance uplifts.

Microsoft says moving mobile versions of the Edge browser under a single umbrella of a unified codebase allows it to speed up and streamline the development process. The company no longer needs to code a single feature three times for desktops, Android, and iOS. Of course, Edge for iOS still runs on WebKit as Apple does not allow third-party rendering engines on App Store.

In terms of new features, Edge 92 for Android brings some long-anticipated capabilities, such as built-in AdBlock Plus, improved Microsoft Translator, a screenshot utility, a refined user interface, better sync, sharing tabs between devices, etc. More importantly, Edge 92 works much faster and smoother when compared to the previous release on Chromium 77.

Download Edge 92 for Android

You can download Edge 92 for Android from Google Play Store using this link. It is worth mentioning that Microsoft has just started rolling out the update, which means it might take a few days before it reaches your Android smartphone. Alternatively, you can always get yourself an official APK from APKMirror using this link.

Similar to desktop versions, Microsoft offers all three preview channels of Edge on Android. You can download Edge Beta, Dev, and Canary from Google Play Store without any limits. Unlike iOS, where the number of Edge insiders is limited to just 10 000, Microsoft allows everyone to join the Edge Insider program on Android without an invitation or testers number cap.
