Microsoft has decided to reduce the trial period for its $1 Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass trials from 30 days to 14 days. This change comes just a few weeks before the highly anticipated release of the role-playing game Starfield from Bethesda Softworks.
Initially, Microsoft ended the trials for Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass in March but reintroduced them after a price increase last month. The company has now canceled the trials to focus on future marketing promotions for new members.
In May, Microsoft allowed Xbox Game Pass users to gift five referral links for a free 14-day trial of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Last month, Microsoft introduced the new Xbox Game Pass Core plan, which will replace Xbox Live Gold. The subscription will launch on September 14th. Microsoft is currently testing Xbox Game Pass Core with Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha Rings members who have an Xbox Live Gold subscription. The new plan, offering access to more than 25 games, will cost $10 per month or $60 per year.
The pricing for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass is $17 and $11 per month respectively. The cost of PC Game Pass remains the same at $10 per month.
Furthermore, Microsoft has discontinued the Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family plan.
Starfield, the highly anticipated game from Bethesda Game Studios, is set to release on September 6th for PC and Xbox Series X/S. This will be Bethesda's first major game since Fallout 4, which was released in 2015. Limited preload of Starfield on Xbox Game Pass has already been made available by Bethesda.
