Microsoft may be working on a Surface Gaming laptop

Looks like the Surface family of thin and lightweight laptops is getting a different option. Rumors say that the company is working on a new device which will become the first gaming laptop in the line.

A Surface Laptop

Surface devices are known for being light and compact, and powerful enough for creativity and business. They aim at enterprises and customers, but that may soon change.

The Prime Gaming website has published the technical specifications of a previously unknown Surface device that will offer high gaming-level performance. Reportedly, the new laptop will be named Surface Gaming.

According to the source, Surface Gaming will be as follows.

  • A 16-inch PixelSense Flow screen with a resolution of 2560 × 1440, 165 Hz, with support for Dobly Vision.
  • Device dimensions - 357.4 mm x 245.1 mm x 19.6 mm.
  • The body of the device is made of magnesium-aluminum alloy.
  • The laptop will be available in Platinum and Matte Black colors.
  • For CPU options, it will have Intel Core i7-12700H (14 cores) and Core i5-12500H (12 cores) processors
  • 16 GB / 32 GB of LPDDR4x RAM.
  • GPU: Core i7 models will come with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti (8 GB) graphics chip, while the Core i5 version will only get an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti (4 GB).
  • Storage: 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB SSD versions.
  • The operating system will be Windows 11, with DirectStorage support.

Based on the leaked specs, Surface Gaming with a Core i7 processor will be able to deliver up to 15 hours of battery life during normal use. The Core i5 version should last up to 16 hours.

Besides, the Surface Gaming will get three USB 4.0/Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a Surface Connect port. The specifications also include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.

Since the laptop is designed for gamers, it will come with a 1 month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. The Xbox app will also be preinstalled on the device.
