Microsoft plans to release Edge 100 in early March 2022. A little more than one month before the stable release, Microsoft wants to ensure that moving from a two-digit version to a three-digit one will not throw a wrench into the Internet.
The latest version of Microsoft Edge Canary (version 99.0.1141.0) has two new experimental flags related to the upcoming migration from version 99 to 100. The new flags allow users to force-enable version 100 in the User-Agent string.
The browser will technically remain on version 99, but it will use version 100 in User-Agent, letting users check how websites behave with a three-digit version number.
You can test three-digit version numbers in Microsoft Edge in the Canary channel (the flags are currently unavailable in Dev, Beta, and Stable).
Enable version 100 for the User-Agent in Microsoft Edge
To enable version 100 in the User-Agent string in Microsoft Edge, do the following.
- Update Microsoft Edge Canary to version 99.0.1141.0 or higher.
- Open
edge://flags. - Find the "Force major version to 100 in User-Agent" flag and change its value from Default to Enabled.
- Restart the browser to apply the changes.
- Now you can use Edge Canary as usual.

Microsoft is not the only browser developer testing version 100 in the User-Agent string. Mozilla and Google also have version 100-related flags in their browsers. Mozilla introduced the option to test the "Firefox 100" version back in August 2021, and the same feature arrived next month in Google Chrome.
