In anticipation of Earth Day 2023, Microsoft is highlighting their efforts to save energy and resources, while simultaneously promoting their partners' efforts in this regard. One such example is the Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR) program, which accepts older computers, refurbishes them, and installs new Microsoft software.
In 2021, more than 4.8 million Windows licenses were issued for refurbished PCs. Windows 11 incorporates power-saving features that maximize the battery life of laptops, resulting in fewer required recharges. Additionally, the OS can be configured to download updates during periods of low electricity consumption.
Furthermore, a recent blog post recommends new computers constructed from recycled materials.
Here are some of the highlights.
- The Acer TravelMate Spin P4 is now available in both Intel and AMD models, and is an ultralight Microsoft Secured-core PC designed with recycled materials to minimize environmental impact. It complies with EPEAT Gold standards and is TCO 9 certified, incorporating up to 34.5% post-consumer recycled plastic and 100% recycled packaging materials.
- The ASUS Expertbook B9 boasts a slim, refined, and precisely crafted frame that combines portability with durability. As a carbon-neutral business laptop, it exceeds ENERGY STAR regulations by incorporating post-industrial recycled metal and FSC Mix-certified paper, reducing its carbon footprint. Additionally, it offsets residual emissions through nature-based carbon credits.
- The HP Dragonfly G4 is an ultralight laptop with new and user-friendly video conferencing capabilities designed to revitalize hybrid work. The chassis is composed of 90% recycled magnesium, and the packaging is entirely sourced from sustainable materials. Additionally, Intelligent Hibernate is integrated to optimize battery life, learning from your usage patterns and entering sleep mode when idle. The device wakes up promptly for an instant-on experience, allowing you to get started faster.
Microsoft has also shared insights from company executives and partners on the importance of sustainability and the need for collective action to protect the planet. Their commitment is reflected in their efforts to build a green Windows 11 PC ecosystem.
