Microsoft is announcing that it is merging its two video tools, Clipchamp and enterprise Stream, under a single brand, Clipchamp. This move is aimed at creating a streamlined video experience for Microsoft 365 users.
Videos made with Clipchamp are saved in Microsoft's cloud storage services, specifically SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive. Users can access and manage their videos through these platforms. This will remain unchanged after merging the tools. Also, the existing features and tools available in both Clipchamp and Stream will remain unchanged.
Microsoft plans to deliver the following enhancements.
Unified portal
In December, Clipchamp and Stream will have a single home page that provides centralized access to create, watch, and search videos.
Improved playback
In March 2025, users will be able to share individual clips of a video. Viewers will be able to watch either a selected clip or the full video when needed.
Screen capture integration
In January 2025, Microsoft Stream screen capture will integrate with the Clipchamp editor, allowing users to easily record and edit video content.
Branding
Microsoft 365 admins will be able to create branding sets for all Clipchamp users in their organization. Clipchamp Enterprise users will be able to create their own templates and add them to the shared set.
Transcription-based editing
Transcription-based video editing will be available in March 2025, allowing you to remove unwanted text and corresponding parts of your video.
Microsoft plans to complete all changes by the next quarter.
Earlier in 2023, the company updated the Photos app for Windows, replacing the built-in Video Editor with the Clipchamp web app. Clipchamp Mobile on iOS received an update in summer 2024 with a multi-track editor.
