Microsoft has updated the list of supported processors for Windows 11

The company has added dozen processors from AMD, Qualcomm and Intel. Surprisingly, one of the models has been removed from the list.

Due to the more rigorous hardware requirements of Windows 11, millions of Windows 10 devices are unable to officially upgrade. While users can use workarounds like Rufus to manually upgrade the OS, Microsoft doesn't officially support this scenario. You may end up with essential services like Windows Update not working, as well as drivers may be missing or malfunction.

The updated list of CPUs supported by Windows 11

Microsoft has added several new processors from both the AMD and Intel lists. The updated AMD list now includes new AMD processors with built-in 3D V-cache technology. The 7950X3D, 7900X3D, and 7800X3D units are now on the list, along with Ryzen 3 4100, and Ryzen 5 4500/5500/5600.

The Intel list includes the Core i9-13900KS, i5-1334U, and 13500HS.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Microsoft SQ3 processors are also supported.

Surprisingly, Microsoft has removed one of the Intel CPUs from the list. Intel Core i3-L13G4 no longer officially supports Windows 11.

These lists are helpful for users to check if their specific Windows 11 processors are supported before purchasing a Windows 10 PC. It's worth noting that not all manufacturers may prioritize their devices' compatibility with Windows 11.

PC hobbyists who are building their own machines may find this information particularly helpful, especially if they don't intend to build a top-of-the-line device with the most current processor technology.

While Windows 10 will continue to receive support until October 2025, there are rumors that Microsoft could release Windows 12 as early as 2024. It is possible that a new version of Windows may have similar or more stringent system requirements than Windows 11.
