Microsoft is taking steps to discontinue Cortana support for Windows 11. Insiders on the Dev and Canary channels are receiving a new app update that removes the voice assistant's functionality. Upon startup, a message informs users that Cortana in Windows is no longer running as a standalone application, with a "Learn More" button that directs them to the Microsoft Support page.
In the next few days, Cortana is expected to stop working for all Windows Insiders. Finally, by the end of the month the app will be disabled for all users of Windows 11.
It is not known if the application will be included in the upcoming 23H2 update for Windows 11.
As Microsoft announced earlier, that this only applies to the Cortana app for Windows. The voice assistant will continue to be available in Microsoft 365 apps like Outlook and Teams.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has been incorporating advanced AI-powered Copilots into many of its products, including the new Windows Copilot - an AI assistant similar to ChatGPT's chat mode.
