Microsoft Edge holds the second place in market share, ahead of Safari and Firefox

Since April 2022, Microsoft Edge remains the second popular browser in the world. The latest StatCounter update shows its market share value slightly above 10%. The browser from Redmond leaves behind both Safari and Firefox.

It is still impossible for any browser to catch Chrome. It remains the absolute leader with monstrous 66.64% in May 2022. Edge is now using the same underlying Chromium project, so two first places and taken by the same set of technologies. Sadly, this leaves a little space for alternatives like Firefox with its Gecko and Apple's WebKit.

Today's usage stat reveals the following values for Desktop browsers.

Stat Counter May

  1. Google Chrome - 66.64%
  2. Microsoft Edge - 10.07%
  3. Apple Safari - 9.61%
  4. Mozilla Firefox - 7.86%
  5. Opera - 2.43%

Microsoft has put a lot of effort into getting those numbers. Particularly with the release of Windows 11, the company has made it extremely difficult to change the default browser from Edge to something else. So many regular users are just stuck with it for a long time. Also, it has been used to reset your settings and restore Edge to default. Microsoft uses all sorts of methods to make the user go with their own web browser.

On mobile, Google Chrome also holds the first place with 63.75%. But other places are taken by different projects. The second place is taken by Safari with 24.82%. Samsung Internet is on the third place (4.9%).  Edge doesn't have any significant value here.
