Earlier we reported that Microsoft was about to replace the legacy Mail, Calendar, and People apps with the new Outlook starting in September 2024. However, the company has changed the timing, so the app will become a new inbox app by the end of the next year.
The Microsoft 365 Message Center now hosts a changed text (via Tero), that doesn't mention the exact date. It says "By the end of next year we will be replacing the Mail and Calendar apps in Windows with the new Outlook for Windows". So, looks like it will be December 2024, when the legacy applications will no longer be available for download.
Microsoft has indicated that the latest Outlook for Windows software will be available to both Microsoft 365 or Office 365 subscribers and individuals with personal email accounts. Even those without a subscription to Microsoft 365 or Office 365 will have access to the new Outlook application.
It is worth noting that the new Outlook client for Windows has been in beta testing for quite some time. But its development was long enough. Just a few weeks ago, there was support for multiple accounts, including Outlook, Gmail, and Yahoo. And it is not yet available for other mail services.
Furthermore, Microsoft assures that Outlook for Windows will possess all the essential features required for efficient email management. The software will be enhanced by AI technology, which will assist users in creating refined and impressive text compositions.
