Microsoft confirmed issues with repairing and updating apps in Windows 11 and 10

On November 9, 2021, Microsoft released cumulative updates for supported Windows 10 and 11 versions. The update fixed numerous issues, although some new bugs appeared out of nowhere. Microsoft has yet again updated the Windows Health Dashboard page, adding details about one more trouble users might encounter.

According to Microsoft's findings, after installing KB5007215, Microsoft Installer (MSI) might have issues repairing or updating apps. Applications affected by the bug will fail to open after repair or update attempts.

As of now, Microsoft says users can mitigate the issue by reinstalling the affected application. Meanwhile, the software giant is working on fixing the new bug. The patch will be available in an upcoming release.

Affected platforms include the following Windows versions:

  • Client Windows versions: Windows 11 21H2 (initial release), Windows 10 21H2, Windows 10 21H1, Windows 10 20H2, Windows 10 2004, Windows 10 1909, Windows 10 1809, Windows 10 LTSC 2019, WIndows 10 LTSC 2016, Windows 10 1607, Windows 10 LTSB 2015, Windows 8.1, and Windows 7 Service Pack 1;

  • Server Windows version: Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 20H2, Windows Server 2004, Windows Server 1909, Windows Server 1809, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, and Windows Server 2008 SP2;

Problems with repairing and updating apps in Windows 10 and 11 are not the only known bug Microsoft has already confirmed. The company says systems with specific versions of the Intel SST driver might experience a blue screen of death on Windows 11 (Microsoft recently announced bringing back the blue BSOD instead of the new black version). For that reason, Microsoft placed an update block to prevent affected systems from getting Windows 11 via Windows Update. You can fix the problem by updating the Intel SST driver to a newer version.
