The Linux Mint team today published their regular announcements related to the development progress of their latest distro and apps. The most notable changes of this month were made to the Xreader app, which is the default PDF reader of Linux Mint. Also, Cinnamon got the ability to set the maximum audio output volume.
Xreader
Xreader is a simple multi-page document viewer. It can display and print PostScript (PS), Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), DjVu, DVI and Portable Document Format (PDF) files. It is based on Artil, a fork of the Evince Gnome app made by the MATE desktop environment team.
Xreader has got the following improvements:
- A new preferences window and the ability to add history and expand buttons to the toolbar.
- It is now possible to change the size of the thumbnails and that size is remembered for each document.
- Support for smooth-scrolling was improved.
- The app can display the most recently opened documents.
Cinnamon improvements
It will be possible to set the maximum audio output volume in the upcoming version of Cinnamon. In the past, the applet and multimedia keys allowed you to set the sound volume between 0 and 100%. The user could open the sound settings to get access to amplification and set the volume to 150%.
This was changed. A new setting was added to define the maximum sound volume.
The sound applet, multimedia keys and the sound settings allow you to set the volume between 0 and the maximum sound volume value.
This change should be welcomed by users with speakers which aren't very loud. For example, a laptop's built-in speakers or cheap USB speakers will benefit from it.
