How to Enable Windows 11-Style Menus in Google Chrome

You can enable Windows 11-style menus in Google Chrome right now. The appropriate option is now available via a flag. As you may remember, Google is working to make its browser look natively on the latest version of Windows. The updated menu appearance is the first step in that direction.

Following Microsoft Edge, Google is adapting the rounder corners for controls. In Edge, you can enable the new appearance in all channels besides stable. But in Chrome it is only available in the Canary version of the browser. Similar to Edge, you will need to enable a hidden flag.

Here's how the new Chrome menus look in action when the browser is running on Windows 11.

If you like their new style, here is how to get it. Obviously that at the time of this writing you need to install Chrome Canary.

Enable Windows 11-Style Menus in the Google Chrome browser

  1. Open a new tab in Chrome.
  2. Type or copy-paste the following URL into the address bar: chrome://flags/#win11-style-menus.
  3. Select Enabled from the drop-down menu next to the Windows 11 Style Menus flag.
  4. Relaunch the browser.

You are done.

Now, open the main menu (Alt + F), or right-click an open web page. You will see the new style menus.

As of this writing, there is no official information on when this change comes to the stable version of the Chrome browser. But it should not take long. Microsoft has scheduled the official release of Windows 11 on October 5, 2021, so it will be here in a few days. If the devs find the menu implementation stable enough, it may go hand-in-hand with the production version of the OS.

It is worth noting that Google and Microsoft recently moved from a six-week release schedule to a four-week. This allows them to deliver new browser features faster to the end user running the stable channel software. Edge 94 and Chrome 94 were the first releases in the new schedule.
