You can enable the system Print dialog in Microsoft Edge. By default, the app is using a built-in customized window, that comes with a large preview area, and extra controls on the left pane. If you prefer the classic Print dialog for advanced options it offers, or for some other reason, it is possible to enable it and disable the default one.

Microsoft Edge is a popular web browser comes preinstalled in Windows 10. Recently, Microsoft has updated it with Chromium underlying project, the same software that supercharged the Google's Chrome app. Due to this change, the two browsers have a lot of common features, but some options are unique to each other. Microsoft has replaced all online Google services with its own solutions, such as Bing, Microsoft Account, Translator, etc. There are also some features like Read Aloud and other nifty improvements which you won't find in Chrome.
When you print a page, e.g. by pressing Ctrl + P, Edge will open the following Print preview dialog.
It is a customized dialog built-in in the browser. There is a hidden option to make it use the system print dialog instead. However, it is a lesser-known option, as Microsoft Edge doesn't expose it anywhere in the GUI.
This post will show you how to enable the system Print dialog in Microsoft Edge.
To Enable System Print Dialog in Microsoft Edge
- Open the Registry Editor app.
- Go to the following Registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
. - If the Edge folder is missing, then create it manually.
- To the right of the Edge folder, modify or create a new 32-Bit DWORD value
UseSystemPrintDialog
. Note: Even if you are running 64-bit Windows you must still create a 32-bit DWORD value. - Set its value to 1.
- Now, close Edge if you have it running, and open again. You will have the system Print dialog.
You are done!
Also, you can download the following Registry files to save your time and avoid the manual Registry editing.
Download Registry Files
Click on the following link: Download Registry Files. Once downloaded, extract the archive to any folder of your choice. Now use the following *.REG files.
- Use_system_print_dialog_in_Microsoft_Edge.reg - this file enabled the traditional printer dialog.
- Use_default_print_dialog_in_Microsoft_Edge.reg - this one restores the default (modern) print preview dialog of the browser.
The files use the UseSystemPrintDialog Edge policy. It works starting in Edge version 77 on Windows and Mac.

Ctrl+Shift+P
/thread
It wasn’t quite visible in the screenshot you used, but at the bottom of the print window that CTRL+P opens the is the very useful “more settings” button and then below that the message “print using system dialog (CTRL+SHIFT+P)” which does what it says. So for anyone hesitant about using the registry editor or possibly, like me, too lazy to bother, it’s just an extra key sequence away!
SHIFT+CTRL+P will open the system dialog in Edge. Just CTRL+P wont do it.
