How to Enable Close Tab Confirmation in Firefox 94 and onward

You can enable or disable the Close Tab confirmation in Firefox 94 thanks to the new option added to the browser. In a document on the official Mozilla Support website, Firefox developers revealed that Firefox 94 and newer versions of the browser no longer display the Close Tab warnings.

Before Mozilla Shipped Firefox 94, the browser would show a warning message when users tried to exit Firefox with numerous tabs open. That is no longer a case because Mozilla thinks the prompt "provides unnecessary and perhaps unwelcome friction."

Interestingly, the Close Tab confirmation message remains on by default on macOS and Linux. Mozilla says the risk of accidental closure is higher on those platforms because the quit app shortcut (Cmd + Q on macOS, Ctrl + Q on Linux) is adjacent to the application switch shortcut (Cmd + Tab). For that reason, Firefox developers decided to keep the Close Tab confirmation message on macOS and Linux.

That is how you restore the Close Tab confirmation message in Firefox 94 and newer versions.

Mozilla also warns that after updating to Firefox 94, users might lose tabs from previous sessions. To restore the missing pages, follow the on-screen instruction on the "Open Previous tabs?" message you will notice after launching Firefox. After that, Firefox will restore your previously open tabs. Also, it will properly save the new browser session whenever you close the browser.

According to the Firefox Release Calendar, Mozilla plans to release Firefox 94 on November 2, 2021, almost one month after the Firefox 93 release.
