Google is testing Premium 1080p Enhanced bitrate YouTube videos on Windows 11

Google is currently experimenting with a premium tier that offers 1080p video streaming on Windows 11 to enhance video quality. This feature was previously limited to premium mobile devices but now appears as an option when watching videos on Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome on Windows 11.

The option currently appears for 1080p videos for some users, but sadly it does nothing as of this writing.

YouTube 1080p Premium Enhanced Bitrate Videos

Last month, YouTube tested this feature with some desktop users and has since expanded it to more Android devices, phones, and TVs.

The Enhanced 1080p Bitrate option is only applicable to 1080p videos and requires a subscription to access higher bitrates.

In April, Google officially announced support for YouTube's 1080p enhanced playback on mobile devices.

In addition to higher bitrates, Google is testing a new product "Playables" on YouTube. It will give users access to games on mobile devices and PCs.

Testing includes the Stack Bounce arcade game, where users break layers with a bouncing ball. It will be playable in the browser or the YouTube app on Android and iOS mobile devices.
