Firefox Relay is out of beta, now publicly available

Besides offering users a non-Chromium browser, Mozilla runs several services to help people reclaim just a bit of their privacy online. One of such tools has just come out of beta. Firefox Relay is now publicly available for Firefox users with a new premium tier with additional features.

Firefox Relay is a "privacy-first" service for masking your email address to protect your online identity. The free tier of Firefox Relay allows users to get five email aliases to use anywhere online without revealing their true address. Firefox Relay will redirect all emails to the real account.

Mozilla has been testing Firefox Relay for the last year, and now the company is ready for the public launch.

Starting with Firefox Relay

To sign up for Firefox Relay, visit relay.firefox.com and sign in with your Firefox Account. After that, you can generate five random email aliases. Those who need more can subscribe to Firefox Relay Premium.

Firefox Relay Premium

Firefox Relay Premium costs $0.99 per month. Unlike the free tier, Firefox Relay Premium is available in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland.

For a dollar per month, Firefox Relay users get unlimited email aliases and a custom domain, for example, taras@winaero.mozmail.com. Also, the premium tier offers the option to use email aliases for direct replies to emails and customer support.

One of the main drawbacks is a puny attachments size: Mozilla allows only 150 KB attachments in one email.

Firefox Relay is not the first service to offer email masking to its users. Fastmail, one of the premium privacy-focused email services, supports email aliases.

Also, 1Password recently announced a partnership with Fastmail that lets users generate burner emails when creating an account on various websites, shops, and services.

Similar capabilities Apple offers its iCloud users for free with additional features in the iCloud+ subscription.

You can read more about Firefox Relay and Firefox Relay premium in a blog post on the official Mozilla website.
