Configure Browser tab experiences in Windows for Microsoft Edge

You can now disable Edge browser tab experiences in Windows 10.

Microsoft Edge has got a new option that allows hiding Edge tabs from Alt+Tab, pinned sites, and more. It is an addition to the Alt+Tab feature in multitasking on Windows 10 version 20H2.

Starting in version 20H2, Microsoft Edge allows you to set how to display Edge tabs in Windows 10. The Pressing Alt + Tab shows option it Setting > Multitasking allows you to select one of the following options according to your preferences.

  • Open windows and all tabs in Edge
  • Open Windows and 5 most recent tabs in Edge (default)
  • Open Windows and 3 most recent tabs in Edge
  • Open Windows only

This post will show you how to enable or disable the browser tab experiences feature for Microsoft Edge on Windows 10.

The new flag allows you to completely disable this behavior.

Disable Edge browser tab experiences in Windows 10

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Type edge://flags/#edge-window-tab-manager in the address bar and hit the Enter key.

  4. Restart the browser.

You are done. The tab managed feature of Microsoft Edge is now disabled.

The flag comes with the following description.

Allows Windows to show open Microsoft Edge tabs in OS experiences like Alt+Tab, pinned sites, and more.

It can be useful for users who don't like how Edge tab management works in Windows 10 version 20H2. However, if you change your mind, you can quickly re-enable this feature in Microsoft Edge.

To enable Edge browser tab experiences, you need to do the following.

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Type edge://flags/#edge-window-tab-manager in the address bar and hit the Enter key.
  3. Select either Enabled or Default from the drop-down list next to the Browser tab experiences in Windows option. Enable Browser Tab Experiences In Windows
  4. Restart the browser.

This will enable the Edge browser experiences function.

So, the above flag is available in the Canary version of Edge starting in build 89.0.736.0.  So, if you either enable or disable the flag, it will only affect tabs opened from the Canary version of the app. The Edge Stable, Dev and Beta tabscan only be managed via Settings on Windows 10 version 20H2.
