How to enable the new File Explorer in Windows 11 Build 25276 and above

We recently covered that Microsoft is working on a huge update for the built-in File Explorer app. It will include a new left pane, a new start page with extra details for recently used files. Finally, it will have several new panels, such as "Activities", "Conversations", "Shared Status", and "Insights".  The latter can now be enabled.

Windows 11 build 25276 adds more options to live kernel dumps in Task Manager, includes an updated cloud storage section in Settings app, and introduces a network troubleshooting tool in the Get Help app. Besides, there are some small interface and reliability improvements here and there.

Windows 11 stable has got new search design with January updates

Yesterday Microsoft released cumulative updates for Windows 11, part of Patch Tuesday. Besides the announced fixes, the patches include a hidden new design for the search in the Start menu and in the taskbar. While both have been announced earlier, the Start menu search looks different from Microsoft's latest announcements.

Yesterday Microsoft released a new Dev channel build 25272 to Insiders running Windows 11. As you could expect, in addition to the officially announced features, it includes some hidden gems. One of them is Gallery, a new folder in File Explorer that exposes images stored on your PC.

Windows 11 Build 22623.1095 in Beta includes an updated Start menu appearance

Besides the new Dev channel build, Microsoft has released a new patch KB5022364 for those who runs Windows 11 in the Beta channel. Traditionally, there are two builds, Build 22623.1095 that includes new features, and Build 22621.1095 that comes with everything new disabled, but it is easy to activate them via a special optional update. The new features in today's update include a new design of the Start menu. It now has a search box with rounder corners. Similar to its Dev channel counterpart, this build shows Quick Assist outside of the Windows Tools folder.
