Winamp 5.8 Beta Found Its Way to the Internet

Winamp is definitely one of the best media players available for Microsoft Windows. It has a long history, impressive popularity and still has plenty of users around the world. Unfortunately, the project started to lose its popularity due to AOL and their management policies. Winamp got a paid pro version, and there was no UI improvement for many years. Since 2013, there hasn't been a single release of the app. Suddenly, this week a beta version of the upcoming Winamp 5.8 found its way to the Internet.

Open HEIF or HEIC images on Windows 10, 8.1 and 7

HEIF is the next-generation image container format to succeed and hopefully replace JPEG. It leverages HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding compression) to encode image data. While over the years, many superior or modernized image formats have appeared to replace JPEG, none have succeeded because of lack of ubiquitous support in various software. HEIF is from the Motion Picture Experts Group and its use is subject to licensing of patents. MPEG has standardized several audio and video compression formats over the last many decades - some popular examples being MPEG-2, MP3, H.264 and HEVC (H.265) among several others. Microsoft has introduced a new MSIX packaging format

Today, during the Windows Developer Day event, Microsoft has announced a new app format. The format is called "MSIX file". It combines the features of Store apps and the classic MSI file packaging format. The new MSIX format will support all types of Windows apps including Desktop apps (Win32), .NET apps and Store (UWP) apps.

Sticky Notes for Windows 10 adds support for bullet lists, and more

Microsoft has updated Sticky Notes for Windows 10. It is a Universal (UWP) app which debuted in Windows 10 Anniversary Update and comes with a number of features which the classic desktop app didn't have.
