As you may or may not be knowing, older USB standards used a Bulk-Only Transport (BOT) protocol to transfer data between devices. When USB 3.0 was introduced, the BOT protocol was retained but a newer USB Attached SCSI protocol (UASP) was defined in the spec which uses the SCSI command set and allows for faster, multi-threaded parallel transfers with command queuing. However, due to low awareness, only a few USB 3.0 mass storage devices adopted UAS. Here is how you can find out if your USB 3.0 device supports UASP.
My freeware, Ribbon Disabler, allows you to enable and disable the Ribbon UI in File Explorer in Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 8with just one click. Let's see what's new in this release.
With Windows 10, there have been increased concerns about privacy because of the entire OS collecting telemetry and sending that data to Microsoft where they inspect it to take future design decisions. Also, new types of malware are always being found to which blocking network access is essential. Allowing network access to only trusted programs is a fundamental step in increasing your security and privacy. Windows 10 Firewall Control is a simple free third party program to control and monitor the network activity of applications. It prevents undesired information leaks for incoming and outgoing connections for applications running locally or remotely on Windows.
A number of Control Panel applets and features in Windows have direct hotkeys to do tasks. If you haven't taken a look at the Win key shortcuts in Windows 10 and earlier versions of Windows, you should learn them now. Recently, Windows 10 build 14361 added a hotkey to directly open the Date/Time tray flyout. That gave me an idea - why not try to open all tray applets with keyboard shortcuts?
I just released OneClickFirewall 188.8.131.52. For those of you who don't know, it's a little app I coded to block an app from accessing the Internet (both inbound and outbound connections) because the Windows Firewall UI involves too many steps. This version does not come with new functionality or fixes. I just tried to reduce the amount of false positive reports by antivirus software. Here is why it happens.
I would like to share with you a little app I coded which gives you the ability to block any app from accessing the Internet. This is done with just one click and uses the built-in Windows Firewall to block or allow it. OneClickFirewall is a small program I made which integrates with the Explorer context menu. All you need to do is right click the application you want to block and select "Block Internet Access".
Sometimes, developers or power users may need to separate 32-bit files from 64-bit files in a specific folder if they are mixed up. The average end user might not need this but it can be time consuming trying to determine this. So I decided to share with you the method I use to save your time.
VirtualBox is my virtualization software of choice. It is free and feature-rich, so all my virtual machines are created in VirtualBox.
Sometimes you need to set the exact display resolution which is not listed in the guest OS settings. While you can achieve this by resizing the VM's window, it is a waste of time. Here is how you can do it quickly.
Telegram is a fast-growing app which competes with WhatsApp and Viber in the mobile messaging market. Like these apps, it also has a desktop version for Windows, Linux and Mac. There is an issue with the official Telegram Desktop app - it does not give you a clear option to hide the contact list on the left side of its window. Here is a little trick you can use to bypass this limitation.
