Microsoft to release WebView2-based Teams in March as a preview

Next month Microsoft will start public testing of the new Teams client. It  has been developed for several years as 'Microsoft Teams 2.0' or and 'Microsoft Teams 2.1'. The new version is built from scratch, will consume 50% less memory and be more power efficient than the current app.

Windows Subsystem for Linux has got hardware acceleration for video

Microsoft today announced that WSL now supports hardware video encoding and decoding. The implementation makes it possible to use hardware processing, encoding and decoding of video in any application that supports VAAPI. The above is supported for AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA graphics cards.

Microsoft plans to retire Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool (MSDT)

Starting in Windows 11 Build 25276, Microsoft Support Diagnostic Tool, or simply MSDT, includes a hidden app deprecation notification with a link to the appropriate support page. The EOL time is set somewhere in 2025 that indicates that next-gen Windows version will not offer it, or may not support it after all.

PowerToys is getting a Quick Settings-like launcher

Microsoft is working on a new launcher for their all-in-one PowerToys toolset. It aims to offer a simplified but yet convenient way of starting the apps. Since the number of 'toys' continues to grow, the default 'Settings-like' UI makes it harder to find and run them. Here the new Quick Settings-like UI comes into play.

Final version of native Visual Studio 2022 for ARM64 released

Microsoft has announced the release of Visual Studio 2022 17.4 with native support for the ARM64 platform. It will allow developers to create software faster without using emulation. Microsoft was testing the native version of Visual Studio for ARM since this summer.
