As you remember, Microsoft has cancelled the idea of releasing major Windows versions frequently, and has switched back to the three-year release schedule. This buried the Windows 11 version 23H2 as a major release. Looks like the Redmond firm is back with that release of the OS, but this time it comes in form of a small update.
Well-known Windows enthusiast @PhantomOfEarth has discovered a newer chain of builds. It is represented by the internal build 22631.1825, which is packed into KB5026440. The current stable build branch are the builds 22621.xxxx.
In the near past, the transition from Windows 10 1903 to 1909, and Windows 10 2004 > 20H2 > 21H1 > 22H2 was made by shipping a small enablement package to the user. These Windows versions were sharing the same code base, and had the same system file set.
The new 22631.xxxx branch follows the suit, and is based on Windows 11 version 22H2. Similarly, it has its own enablement package KB5027397.
Besides, it also includes a component store ID, 42105254, which unlocks the new features on that build.
This clearly indicates that Microsoft may release Windows 11 version 23H2, as a small cumulative update. The majority of new features still land in consumer releases of the OS with even smaller Moment updates.
The next "big" release of Windows 11 is slated for 2024.
