YouTube starts testing a simplified option to watch videos at twice the speed. By pressing and holding the mouse button on a video area, you can make it play 2x times faster. For now, it's only available to YouTube Premium subscribers.
This feature appears to be influenced by TikTok, where long-pressing a video opens a menu with various options. Playback speed is among them.
In case of YouTube, in the near future click-n-hold will show a "Play at 2x speed" option at the top of the window. Also, when watching the video in this mode, releasing the mouse button will pause the video playback. Currently, the new option already appears when you try to adjust playback speed by selecting a three-dot menu and choosing the desired speed.
YouTube will be testing this new feature until August 13.
On other news, YouTube had previously introduced the Stable Volume feature, currently available to select users in settings. This option will likely normalize the sound in the current and/or different videos.
