You will soon be able to add stickers to wallpapers in Windows 11

Albacore (@thebookisclosed) recently uncovered a pack of new features and improvements coming soon to Windows 11 preview builds. Microsoft is working on improving the Settings app with a new Sustainability section, better Focus, and enhancements for notifications management.

It is good to see Microsoft polishing Windows 11 and improving the user experience. However, Microsoft is still Microsoft, which means brace yourself for some whacky new capabilities nobody asked.

According to another post from Albacore, Windows 11 will soon get a new feature that allows placing stickers on desktop wallpapers. Moreover, Microsoft apparently thinks stickers on the desktop are a feature that will be popular enough to have a dedicated entry in the context menu on your desktop.

A screenshot published by Albacore shows that Microsoft plans to add an "Edit Stickers" option next to "Personalize" and "Display Settings." It will be easier to edit stickers than to change the desktop background. P is for priorities.

It is worth noting that there is very little information about how desktop stickers will work. Hopefully, Microsoft will provide a reasonable explanation of why regular users should care about stickers on their desktops (IT Admins will have a policy for disabling stickers).

Still, judging from the screenshot provided by Albacore, the feature will be purely for looks and personalization. And no, stickers are not a return of Windows Gadgets. Do not expect Microsoft to bring back those small apps from the Windows Vista and 7 eras. The real thing now is a feature that lets you put a clown emoji sticker on your desktop. The taskbar still does not support drag and drop, but hey, stickers!
