Xbox OS September update adds party chat noise suppression and more

Microsoft has released a new firmware update for the Xbox game consoles that brings noise cancellation support in voice chats. This feature allows you to get rid of annoying clicks, background music and breathing sounds. Another new feature in this update is the ability to go to a game from a screenshot or clip shared by your friends.

The released software has the following version: 10.0.22621.1836. The build number indicates that it is already from the Windows 11 22H2 family. The latter is expected to be released this month, and its RTM release will be build 22621.

Noise suppression is enabled by default on Xbox Series X|S. But users can disable it at any time on the "Guide" > "Parties & Chats" > "Options" page.

We’ve added noise suppression to parties on Xbox Series X|S consoles to help remove unwanted noises like gamepad clicks, breathing, and background noise from your parties.

If you want to keep some types of background noise in your parties, like music, you can also turn noise suppression off.

In addition, with the update, users have a new way to join friends' game sessions. In addition to viewing game clips and screenshots, the Event Stream now lets you play your game on PC or mobile using Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Jump into a game from your friends’ shared captures

Now the friends you share your game clips and screenshots with can not only watch your captures, they can start playing right away on their mobile device or PC with cloud gaming. (Some games require Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for cloud gaming.)

Just tap Play and start playing directly in a browser, straight from a shared clip.

Finally, there are several known issues in this update. As a workaround for for a few of them Microsoft suggests restarting the console. For others the company expects you to file your feedback. Check out the official release notes to learn more.
