The Xbox family of game consoles received an improved Energy Saver mode, which now supports downloading updates for the operating system and games. Previously, users had to use Standby mode to get updates in the background.
From now on, the Energy Saver mode will be used by default on the Xbox, although the change will only affect those users who are setting up their game console for the first time. However, it is worth noting that it takes some time for consoles to resume from the power saving mode. This will be especially noticeable on the Xbox One. But users of the newer Xbox Series X|S consoles will hardly notice the changes, as these consoles boot almost instantly.
A new blog post by Dave McCarthy, Corporate VP of Operations, Xbox, explains that now system and game updates can be downloaded in Energy Saver mode, saving even more power. Energy Saver mode consumes 20 times less power than standby mode when the console is not being used or is not receiving updates.
Also, Post-Consumer Recycled resin (PCR) is now being actively used in the production of Xbox Series S consoles. Dave McCarthy states that the mechanical components in the updated revisions are at least 28% recycled plastic.
