Microsoft today released an update for Windows Subsystem for Android, which is now available to Insiders running Windows 11. This update includes several new features and improvements made to video playback and integration with the OS.
There are the changes.
H.264 hardware video decoding
Windows Subsystem for Android now allows hardware accelerated H.264 video decoding. This will improve the performance of some applications that support high-definition video playback.
Networking Changes
Microsoft has made some networking changes to the platform that will be used in forthcoming updates. The company encourages insiders to provide feedback on any networking issues that affect apps installed from the Amazon Appstore.
Mail client integration
This update improves the integration between Windows email clients and WSA. Changes will be seen in applications that can trigger email clients for sending messages.
MSAA (Multisample anti-aliasing) Changes
MSAA is a useful feature for some games. But in previous versions of the subsystem, there was not way turn off 4X MSAA on demand by the game or user. This issues has been finally fixed.
Input improvements
The updates includes general input improvements in Windows Subsystem for Android. There is also improved scrolling in the Amazon Appstore and Kindle apps.
Known Issues
- On some devices, video playback may sometimes be interrupted.
- Apps may restart when exiting Connected Standby.
