Microsoft has released a new version of Windows Subsystem for Android. WSA 2306.40000.4.0 is a small update that is available to all Windows Insider channels.
Windows Subsystem for Android is a software layer that allow running Android apps on top of Windows 11. It uses Amazon AppStore as its primary software source. But using a hack, you sideload your favorite apps from an APK file.
The update includes camera compatibility improvements and a fullscreen mode with F11 that displays a hover taskbar for improved mouse and touch experience.
It also introduces the ability for Android apps to connect to devices on the same network, respects Windows firewall rules, and works with VPNs under the local networking feature.
Share user folders now allows users to change their default shared folder. The subsystem prompts if an app tries to use a permission it doesn't have, and it has switched from EROFS to EXT4 for read-only disks.
Various fixes and improvements include
- OneDrive folder visibility in Android apps,
- drag and drop support for more file types,
- picture-in-picture enhancements,
- default enabled partially running mode for devices with at least 16 GB of memory,
- stability fixes for Arm devices
On the bundled software side, it comes with an updated Linux kernel to version 5.15.104, and Android 13 security updates.
