Windows Server 2022 is generally available

While Microsoft started deploying Windows Server 2022 on August 18, 2021, the Redmond software giant did not make an official announcement until today. The company wanted to make sure that the new version of the server OS is available on all distribution channels.

Windows Server 2022 has received Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) status, which means that extended system support will last for 10 years from the moment of release.

The new version of the server OS received a multi-layered security system, including a secure connection and the Secured-core concept, which provides for a deep interaction of hardware and software components (firmware and drivers) to counteract external attacks.

Secure Connection in Windows Server 2022 adds another layer of security during transport. The new release adds faster and more secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTPS) encryption and industry-standard AES-256 encryption with Server Message Block (SMB) support.
In addition, Windows Server 2022 can work with Azure Arc, which allows organizations to use cloud services with a locally installed server OS.

Windows Server 2022 supports up to 48 TB of RAM and up to 2048 logical cores running on 64 physical sockets. Microsoft notes that this is sufficient for demanding Tier1 applications.

In addition to Windows Server 2022, Microsoft has introduced new Azure-based services that will help extend the capabilities of the operating system. For example, the Azure Automanage Preview enables IT professionals to automate cloud computing and frameworks.

Mainstream support for Windows Server 2022 will remain available until October 13, 2026, and extended support will last until October 14, 2031.
