Windows Recall has finally got its final shape and is ready for production

Windows Recall is on the verge of being released for production Copilot+ PCs. After roughly a year of delays and six months of testing, Microsoft's much-discussed Recall feature has made its way to the Windows 11 Release Preview channel, a key milestone that typically precedes general availability.

Reports suggest that Microsoft has been gearing up for a May rollout of Windows Recall, and with the feature now available in the Release Preview channel, this timeline seems consistent. Users can expect the feature to begin rolling out in the coming weeks.

Windows Recall is an AI-driven productivity tool designed exclusively for Copilot+ PCs. It utilizes the device’s Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to capture snapshots of user activity, allowing individuals to revisit tasks or content they’ve previously interacted with on their PC.

Originally, Microsoft intended to launch Windows Recall in June 2024 alongside Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, which were meant to have exclusive access to the feature for a period of time. However, delays pushed back these plans, and now all Copilot+ PCs are expected to receive the feature simultaneously in somewhere in the beginning of 2025, with its debut anticipated shortly.

The feature first entered testing with Windows Insiders in November 2024. Notably, even after its general release, Recall may still carry a "preview" label. While the exact duration of this designation remains uncertain, the feature is already considered polished and functionally complete.

The delay in Recall’s release was primarily due to concerns over privacy and security. In response, Microsoft enhanced the feature’s safeguards, adding encryption to ensure that only the user can access the data collected by Recall.
