Windows Goodbye – a new Dynamic Lock feature in Windows 10

With the release of build 15002, Windows 10 received plenty of new features. Tile folders in the Start menu, the ability to capture a region of the screen, a refined Settings app are just a few examples of the improvements included in this build of the Windows 10 Creators Update.

One more change in Windows 10 build 15002 is Dynamic Locking. Internally, in the Windows team, it is called "Windows Goodbye".
Dynamic Lock Windows Goodbye
This new feature is the opposite of Windows Hello. While Windows Hello signs in the user after face recognition, Windows Goodbye locks the PC if it detects that the user has left his workplace. It is not known yet how exactly this will work, as the feature is not documented. The following scenario is possible: When Dynamic Locking is enabled, Windows 10 will automatically lock your device after 10 to 15 minutes of you leaving it.

It might make use of the Hello-compatible cameras, or other sensors, so a depth sensing camera like Intel's RealSense or similar will be a requirement to get it working.

Dynamic Lock is an interesting addition to the security and safety options of the operating system. It can protect your private data if you forget to lock your PC before leaving it. It is especially useful in a corporate environment where other people can easily access your PC.
