Microsoft has recently started force-updating PCs running Windows 11 version 22H2 to the latest version 23H2. Windows 11 version 22H2 nears its end of life. But here is a bit of good news. Non-security updates will continue to be available for Windows 11 22H2 as optional downloads until June 26, 2024.
This change is applicable to Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations editions of Windows 11 22H2, with support for these editions set to end on October 8, 2024. More on the topic is on this page.
Updates are typically released in the fourth week of each month and may include enhancements and new features. Users have the choice to ignore these optional updates, with any changes they bring eventually rolled into a mandatory cumulative update at a later time.
Essentially, these optional updates offer users the opportunity to test out new features before their widespread release on Patch Tuesday.
A few days ago, Microsoft has started the forced upgrades of Windows 11 22H2 machines to the most recent 23H2 release. Windows 11, version 21H2 reached the end of servicing last October and version 22H2 is approaching the same fate. This will soon make 23H2 as the only supported release. So eligible Windows 11 devices will automatically get it.
