Windows 11 Snipping Tool now allows recording videos

Microsoft is now testing a new version of the Snipping Tool 11.2211.35.0 for Windows 11. In addition to screenshots, it comes the ability to record video from the screen. The update is currently only available to Insiders on the Dev channel.

Microsoft said that they are aware of the popularity of the Snipping Tool among users. So in the new update they introduced the built-in screen recording feature! The app always makes it quick and easy to capture and share content from your computer, and the built-in screen recording feature opens up new possibilities for capturing other types of content.

To give it a try, open the Snipping Tool app and select the Record tab. You can then refine the area of the screen that needs to be captured on video. After the recording is completed, you can evaluate the result before saving it or sending it to other users.

Since this is a pre-release version of the app, you may face bugs. According to Microsoft, some users may experience a slight delay between pressing the "Start" button and the actual recording of the video. Also, the Snipping tool window may not be restored when creating a new screen snip from its UI.

If the app is not available for you as of this writing, you can try the following workaround.

Get Windows 11 Snipping Tool with Video Recording

  1. Open the https://store.rg-adguard.net/ website in your browser.
  2. Paste the following in the search box: https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9MZ95KL8MR0L, select Fast from the drop-down list, and click the button with a check mark.
  3. Pick the package named Microsoft.ScreenSketch_2022.2211.35.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe.msixbundle. Download, and double click to install the app update.
  4. Run the Snipping Tool. Now it looks like in my screenshots above.

That's it!
