Windows 11 Build 23430 (Dev) improves notifications, changes the Alt + Tab behavior

Microsoft has updated the Dev channel for Insiders with Windows 11 Build 23430. It makes it easier to find urgent notifications when in DnD mode, limits Edge tabs in Alt+Tab to 20, and comes with a good set of general fixes and improvements.

Changes and improvements

• General
  • When using apps in full-screen mode, urgent or important notifications that appear while Do Not Disturb is enabled will now show a "View Notification" button. This allows users to view notification content that would otherwise be hidden for privacy.
  • In a previous build , Microsoft announced that Content Adaptive Brightness Control (CABC) is working on desktop PCs. This is not true. This feature must also be enabled by the device manufacturer (OEM) and is therefore not available on all laptops and 2-in-1 hybrid devices.
• Settings
  • The Alt+Tab menu and Task View can now display up to 20 recent tabs from Microsoft Edge. You can manage this setting in the "Settings" -> "Multitasking" section.
• For developers
  • Added a new option under Settings -> Privacy & Security -> For Developers that activates the "End task" item in the context menu that appears when you right-click on an open application in the taskbar. Please note that this feature is not yet functional. The company plans to fix the issue in future builds.

• General
  • Fixed an underlying issue causing some Insiders to see an increase in explorer.exe crashes in the last 2 flights.
• Input
  • Fixed an issue where text input features like touch keyboard, voice typing, and emoji panel might not launch.
  • Fixed an issue where the buttons in the Pinyin IME’s settings flyout were hard to see when they had focus if a contrast theme was enabled.
• Task Manager
  • Fixed an issue impacting Task Manager reliability.
  • The search box should no longer be cropped at the top when the window is maximized.
• Accessibility
  • Fixed an issue where in Quick Settings, Narrator was reading out the previous page’s title instead of the active page’s.
  • After downloading voice access, information to help you get started with it should correctly open again now.
  • Fixed an issue where popups for voice access weren’t translated correctly.

Known Issues

• Search on the taskbar:
  • After updating to  Build 23403, some users may be missing the taskbar search box and/or taskbar search settings. Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.
  • If you have a Bing button in the search bar on your taskbar and you restart your computer, you may see an important event from the daily rotation for some time before the Bing button returns to its place.
• File Explorer:
  • If keyboard shortcut hints are available in the context menu:
    • Keyboard shortcut hints may not appear if no keys are pressed. Pressing the key will make them appear.
    • [New] Shift + right-click on a file or folder does not open the "Show advanced options" menu.
  • Problems with commands for recommended files:
    • When you click on the "Share" button, a system window will open, not a window from OneDrive.
• Live captions:
  • On ARM64 devices, enhanced speech recognition support set on the Language and Region page will require restarting live captioning after changing the language in the subtitle menu.
  • Some languages ​​displayed on the Language and Region page support speech recognition (such as Korean), but do not yet support live captioning.
  • When adding a language using the Language and Region page, the installation progress of language features may be hidden, and you will not see when the installation of Enhanced Speech Recognition (required for Live Captions) is completed. You can use "Language Options" to track progress. If this happens, there may be an unexpected delay before the Live Captions setup system detects the new language and allows you to continue.
  • Subtitle display speed may be slower when using languages ​​other than English. There is also no detection of languages ​​other than English (United States), which means that incorrect subtitles may be displayed for speech other than the subtitle language.
