Windows 10 will notify you if version 2004 is blocked on your device

Microsoft has made Windows 10 version 2004 available to everyone. Interested users can now install it via Windows Update, or reinstall it from scratch by downloading an ISO image. On of the small changes in this release is a notification banner that appears in Settings when the update is blocked on your device.

Windows 10 version 2004 has a number of release-blocking issues that may prevent the OS from being installed on some devices. Unlike previous Windows 10 versions, the Windows Update page in Settings will now display a special message, letting you know that your device is affected by a known issue and can't be updated.

Windows 10 Version 2004 Quite Not Ready Message

The notification banner states:

The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on its way. We’re offering this update to compatible devices, but your device isn’t quite ready for it. Once your device is ready, you’ll see the update available on this page. There’s nothing you need to do at this time.

By showing this message Microsoft is trying to convince users to not install Windows 10 version 2004 on unsupported devices. The message should give them an idea that  alternative methods like ISO images and Windows Media Creation Tool won't work, too.

In addition to the list of known issues in this release, Microsoft has published what has been removed, and deprecated in May 2020 Update.

  1. Hello Sergey,

I installed the new Windows 2004, and my PC is crashing badly.
I ran System File Checker and the DISM commands to try to repair the issue, but no luck so far.
What other Command Prompt solutions would you recommend I try to repair the installation before I roll back to the previous version of Windows?
It would be nice if Microsoft allowed you to re-run the Windows Assistant to repair the new version.
    Thanks for the help,

    Jim
