Windows 10 Hero is a signature image made by Microsoft to make their latest operating system recognizable. The Redmond software giant might soon introduce a new version of the Hero image in Windows 10 with the upcoming Creators Update in April.
The new Hero image has been reworked to look more simplified and less colorful. At first glance, it reminded me of the Starter edition of Windows 7, where the wallpaper was also simple and less colorful than in the full-featured editions of the OS.
Here is how it looks:
It features a Windows logo drawn with a neon beam, but without shadows, smoke and gradients.
Rumors say that the new image might be the default wallpaper in the Cloud edition of Windows 10. The image above came from Windows 10 Cloud Build 15046 and is not yet available in other editions of the same build.
Windows 10 Cloud is expected to be a special edition of the OS designed for low-power devices which are based on ARM SoCs. This edition is known to be limited only to Universal apps installed from the Store. This is similar to Windows RT which has the same limitations. Many consider Windows 10 Cloud as the successor to Windows RT. It won't run classic Win32 apps and will be limited only to Store apps.
It is quite possible that the new update image reflects the "lightweight" nature of the Cloud edition, which is why it looks so much cleaner.

The new version no longer reminds of a photograph, it now looks like an image born in an image editing software. I hate how Microsoft has gone from futuristic Windows 7 looks back to where it was 17 years ago. At least, this is what they’re trying to achieve since 2012.
Everything old is new again.
A saying made about the fashion industry, now relates well to user interfaces.
I’m a bit confused, as I don’t see how Windows 7 was futuristic compared to XP unless you mean Aero Glass. WIn 7 had swirls and flowers in its default backgrounds which is not high tech stuff. I do think 7 looks good so we agree on that. :)
I generally like the wallpaper collections and themes you post but this, not so much. The original hero wallpaper looked striking at first glance but empty, bleak and depressing after that. It’s completely unrelatable and a sad change from fifteen years of compelling images, including all the Longhorn beta ones. I still put the whole collection of XP to 7 wallpapers on every computer and there tends to be something to please everyone.
