Windows 10 21H2 November 2021 Update is officially released

Microsoft today announced the public roll-out of a new feature update for Windows 10. It is version 21H2, also known as November 2021 Update. As with previous updates, 21H2 is more of a minor cumulative update for Windows 10 version 2004 with a few changes.

The situation is not surprising. All novelties have already landed in the newer operating system, Windows 11. Windows 10 will continue to receive updates until 2025, but you definitely shouldn't expect any major changes to the OS.

The May 2020 Update, October 2020 Update, May 2021 Update, and now November 2021 Update are built on the same codebase and therefore receive the same cumulative updates.

In fact, all the changes from the November 2021 Update have already been added in the May 2021 Update, although they are just hidden. Today's release is simply an enablement package that activates them.

So, the update process to the November 2021 Update will take a few minutes. You shouldn't run into issues with it.

However, it must be noted that the above only applies to users upgrading from May 2020 Update, October 2020 Update and May 2021 Update. If you are upgrading from earlier versions of Windows 10, the process will be exactly the same as installing a full build or feature upgrade.

How to get the Windows 10 November 2021 Update

Windows 10 November 2021 Update (version 21H2) will not install automatically. Instead, in the "Windows Update" you will see a message about the availability of a new version of the system, but you can make the decision to install yourself. Microsoft calls this "available to seekers".

If after you check for updates, you don't see the upgrade offer, then the update is probably blocked for your device due to some compatibility issues. It will become available later once Microsoft will fix an issue that causes the upgrade block.
