Vivaldi 3.4 is out, featuring configurable context menus, automatic reloading of pages on desktop, and improved Speed Dial layout on Android. Also, it now includes Vivaldia, the real 80s arcade-style game, on both platforms.
Vivaldi was started with the promise of giving you a highly customizable, full-featured, innovative browser. It looks like its developers kept their promise - there is no other browser on the market which offers the same amount of options and features. While Vivaldi is built on Chrome's engine, power users are the target user base, like the classic Opera 12 browser. Vivaldi was created by former Opera co-founder and developed keeping in mind Opera's usability and power. There is also a mobile version of the browser, also powerful and feature rich.
These day, Vivaldi is the most feature rich, innovative web browser among Chromium-based projects.
What's new in Vivaldi 3.4
Custom links in menus
You can now add custom entries to menus. For example, you can add an entry to open some internal page of the browser. Or, you can create a custom root items to the main menu of the browser than will contain only your custom commands, which is very useful.
You need to open Settings → Appearance, and go to Menu on the right. Pick the desired menu section on the left, and select a command on the left.
Customizable context menus
The official announcement mentions the following:
You can now adjust your menus via “Settings → Appearance → Menu”. Just add or remove the actions you need, to make your browser perfectly tailored for your workflow.
You can now adjust the way the browser's menu looks in Settings → Appearance → Menu. There, you can
- Re-arrange items
- Add items that previously were not accessible from the menu
- Remove entries you never user to clear up the clutter and use it more efficient
Periodic tab reload
This new option can be used to ensure you are always looking at the latest version of a site (when you switch to a tab with it enabled). On certain web sites that sign out you after a period of inactivity, it will allow you to remain logged in, while you are actually working elsewhere.
The team points that with Vivaldi options like Tab tiling you can have a grid of auto refreshing tabs, e.g. to see news, auction bids, or something like that.
It is also useful for tabs with the Page Title Notifications option enabled. For example, you will be aware of new messages arrived to some forum's PM inbox folder.
The reload values for the tab can be set via a fixed list on the context menu of the tab or you can use quick commands to set an interval value (in seconds, with a minimum of 60).
There a small count down animation on a tab. The tab shows a progress bar working in reverse until next reload.
Capture directly to a new note
Now the capture options include the ability to capture a screenshot directly into a new note. Highlight the part of the page that is interesting (or choose a full page capture) and create a note from this. After capture, you can immediately add a comment to complete your note taking.
- Choose a avatar: You can select a custom image for non-synced profiles via a new plus icon in the top left of the profile manager.
- Easier Speed Dial folder creation: Simply drag one item onto another to create folders within your Speed Dial.
- Simpler tiling: All tiling commands now take into consideration your previously active tab. So that your current and last accessed tab will be tiled, when not working with selections or stacks. You can activate tiling commands via Quick Commands, keyboard shortcuts or even map your own mouse gestures.
Vivaldi 3.4 on Android
Vivaldi’s signature feature, Speed Dials, right on the Start Page of Vivaldi on Android, now includes three different Speed Dial layouts – large, small, and list view. These new options help you view and access the Speed Dials according to your preferences and the type of device you use.
Vivaldia, a pixel-perfect arcade-style runner game makes a debut. For the first time, you will be able to play a real 80s arcade-style game directly in your browser on both desktop and Android.
