Vivaldi 1.5 brings the following key changes:

  • Improved tab moving between browser windows.
  • Reader mode.
  • Delta updates (for Windows only).
  • Automatic screenshots in Notes.
  • Integration with Hue color lights from Philips.

Tab Management
The browser finally comes with the long awaited ability to move tabs between open windows. You can drag not only tabs but also tab selections and tab stacks. The following video demonstrates this feature in action:

Other tab management improvements include the following abilities:

  • Drag selections of tabs (Shift or Ctrl click) to another window.
  • Drag tab stacks between windows.
  • Drag a tab in and out of a tab stack: to drag out, grab one of the little sub-tabs at the top
  • Drag a tab to the trash: drag it down first and then over to the trash

Reader Mode
Reader Mode simplifies web pages by removing most of the clutter. Vivaldi developers added a special button in the address bar. Here is how it looks and works.

Delta updates
Thanks to this new feature, you can save your time and traffic. Vivaldi 1.5 will download only the changes between two builds when a new version is released. This will allow you to download far less data when upgrading to a new build. According to Vivaldi developers, the update size for current releases will not be more than the size of data that can fit on a floppy disk, meaning the data downloaded will be smaller than 1.5 megabytes.

Automatic screenshots in Notes
This new feature extends the Notes function in Vivaldi. Notes allow the user to write down your ideas while you browse. It can be opened from the side panel. Now, you can automatically attach a screenshot of the page which was open when you wrote a note.vivaldi-notes

Philips Hue support
The last change is very surprising and unexpected. Vivaldi can now integrate with Hue color lights from Philips and adjust the lamp color using the color of the active tab.
The following video shows this feature in action:

Lamps with adjustable hues and apps to set their color have suddenly taken the world by storm. So this is a stylish feature.

That's it. You can download the browser from its official home page:

  1. It’s very good. But it still feels ‘heavy’ to me. More so than vanilla Chromium. Perhaps because of the custom UI they use.

Do you know what framework they use for their UI? HTML5?
